Portland, Oregon

VISITED: FEBRUARY 2015

Portland has been known for its culinary creativity, craft beer, and expansive outdoor activities. Highlights of Portland's surrounding landscape include the Columbia River Gorge, Multnomah Falls, Columbia River, and Trillium Lake, just to name a few. For photographers looking to capture Mount Hood from different vantage points, there are a few locations that I found particularly pleasing:

Trillium Lake - A breathtaking view of Mount Hood reflected in the lake

Panorama Point - A view of Mount Hood behind acres of orchards and farmland.

Jonsrud Viewpoint - A vast expanse of trees cover the foreground with Mount Hood dominating the background.

Pittock Mansion - The best view of downtown Portland with Mount Hood in the background.

For sunrise or sunset I bounced around between a few spots and found a particular location most appealing. Other photographers or Oregonians may have another opinion, but considering it's subjective, I will list my personal favorites:

SUNRISE - Portland Women's Forum - This location provides a great view of Vista House sitting out on the ledge overlooking the Columbia River Gorge.

SUNSET - Pittock Mansion - As the light goes down and illuminates the sky over Portland, this vista is hard not to appreciate.

Although my website focuses on photography, I would be remiss if I did not mention some foodie hot spots that I heard about or was recommended. Besides the adventure of hiking and taking photographs, food plays a major role in these city excursions.

*Voodoo Donuts - For crazy and comical takes on your classic donuts and flavors

*Stepping Stone Cafe - Home of the mancake (a pancake the size of a large plate). Also home to one of the most delicious cinnamon rolls I've ever tasted.

*Salvador Molly's - Unbelievably delicious and HOT habanero fritters

*Food Trucks - Portland is well-known for their legendary food cart infusions. Travel along their food cart pods throughout the city to find the food style that calls to you.

I know I may have missed some key locations or eateries, so please forgive me. These were my favorites and what I have always recommended to friends and family that have traveled to the Portland area.
